The year 2020 has been a stressful year for employees working in various sectors all over the world. People had to suddenly shift from their regular life to work from home and some had even lost their jobs.
People had to cover their work and adjust their financial condition. Even students and children had a hectic time due to this pandemic. All of this happened due to the COVID-19. Out of so many problems around us, the main issue is overlooked that is our mental condition. Anxiety and stress have now formed a common factor between people as interaction has been less between people by staying at home. It can be said that 2020 has been the most stressful year till now.
What steps should the companies and organizations take to stabilize the mental state of their employees? Will robots and AI play a vital role in this problem?
Oracle along with Workplace Intelligence has made a new research by organizing a survey among 12,000 people including Managers, HR, Employees around 11 countries. It has been seen that nearly 82% of the people have more faith in robots supporting their mental health rather than humans. 68% of the people preferred discussing their mental state problems like anxiety and stress with the robots rather than their reporting manager. It was even stated that organizations should now take the mental state of their employees more seriously and help them out which will establish a steady workforce in the upcoming projects.
According to the survey organized by Savanta, Inc around 12,347 global workforces aged between 22 and 74 from various countries like United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, France, Italy, Germany, India, Japan, China, Brazil, and Korea were questioned about their mental state, artificial intelligence technology, robots and chatbots in their workplace.
How 2020 turned out to be the most stressful year?
7 out of 10 people have stated 2020 to be the most stressful year till now. Managing the office work and household stuff along with online classes for children has created a major tension in life for many people. Many employees are facing a huge financial crisis because of their jobless spouse. 41% of people have even stated that there is no more difference between personal and professional life now. Overall it can be said that the mental state of the various workforce has been affected negatively due to lack of work and personal life balance, social activities, loneliness.
When everything was normal before COVID-19 came around it was easy to leave the work stress in the office and change the mindset by spending time with family at home. As the workplace and home are not separable now it has become really hard to get stress relief. A constant battle is going on between the health, mind, and finance among most of the people.
85% of people have stated that their mental state at work has put a negative impact on their family life.
Employees consider mental state support from AI
The most important data fetched out of the research was that 68% of the people have stated that they consider sharing their stress and anxiety to a robot rather than discussing it with their reporting person. About 82% think that robots can support them better mentally.
The leading countries in this aspect are India and China. 91% of the employees in both countries believe in robots more than their reporting manager.
It has even been considered that taking good care of employee’s mental health can benefit the growth of the companies by maintaining a good work-life balance. Time will only reveal the use of AI for taking care of the mental health in the future.
