We are surrounded by various types of things in our surroundings that could affect us badly. But if we are alerted by it before we can save ourselves from it. For example, if a robot is made to detect all these dangers then it can easily inform us. U.S Army scientists have validated the first robot team that can identify the physical changes in real-time and alerts us to save lives.
This can help the soldiers to identify many dangerous objects and the robots can also send awareness to their mates as declared by Dr. Christopher Reardon, a researcher at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory. Anything could be detected by these robots from camouflaged enemy soldiers to IEDs. The developers also proposed that this technology can also be implemented into (IVAS) googles – Army’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System.
Most of the research engaged in the mixture of reality for human robots teaming does not get organized in the real environment. It is organized in a lab with foreign instrumentation to get the calculations necessary for sharing the information between the human and robot. Similarly, most of the engineering used to provide humans with mixed-reality interfaces is not done by teaming up with automatic robots as said by Dr. Christopher Reardon. A small group of automatic robots was paired and equipped with laser sensors (LIDAR) to present an environment along with a human teammate wearing augmented reality glasses. The robots moved around the environment and the comparison was made between the present and its previous readings to detect the changes that happened in the environment. Those changes were then presented to the human wearing the augmented reality glasses to determine the change in the environment.
The facility would make an amazing impact in the future and it can be integrated into the soldier mixed-reality interfaces. Future research will explore how to make bonding more effective between humans and automatic robots. More pieces of information will be gathered by the robot about its rival and environmental changes with the improved development of this technology.
